The Tiffany & Co. is the world famous jewelry and silverware company which had its base in the United States of America. It was established by Charles Lewis Tiffany and Teddy Young in the year 1837. Its very first store is situated in Manhattan, New York City.

Originally, the company was named Tiffany & Young, after its abovementioned main founders. It was a stationery and fancy goods emporium back then. However, in the year 1853, it was renamed Tiffany & Co. when Charles Tiffany took complete control. At this time, the corporation focused on the jewelry business.

Along with this name change was the appearance of the figure of Atlas. This figure has then become a notable Tiffany trademark. The famous blue box was used to package the Tiffany jewelry purchased. It also became a registered trademark of the company and has been renowned as the “Tiffany Blue”.

Famous U.S. families, Hollywood stars, athletes, and European royalty adore Tiffany designs, especially their diamonds. Even museums have showcased the jewelry designs of the company, such designs varied from the Art Nouveau era to Art Deco and the styles of the modern times.

The Tiffany & Co. pioneered the use of metric carat as a weight measurement for gems, as well as the use of.925 sterling silver in their products. Later on, these standards have been adopted as the United States Standards.  The company tried adding zinc, nickel, or copper to pure silver. By doing so, they were able to make silver stronger while still preserving its marked silver sheen. Consequently, Tiffany & Co. was able to produce silver jewelry that will endure longer with its unique process.

Tiffany & Co. gradually became more and more popular as it played a very important role in national affairs. The firm also manufactured swords and weapons, and surgical apparatus, which supplied the Union Army during the civil war. When the war ended, Tiffany & Co. produced superb gemstone encrusted ceremonial swords for Generals Grant and Sherman.

In 1867, Tiffany & Co. was given the Award of Excellence in recognition for its fine silver work. The firm was very much honored because of the fact that it was the first American company who was given such recognition in this field.

When you happen to get hold of an American Dollar bill, try to examine the right backside of the bill. There, you will see a very good example of work done by Tiffany & Co. You can see a revision of the eagle as commissioned by the government of the United States of America.

Indeed, Tiffany & Co. has proven itself worthy to be on the pinnacle in the world of silver and jewelry industry. Today, the firm continuously produces the finest in silver and other elegant jewelry works.    GP
